Job Description

We are looking for a Test Automation Specialist to work in Brussels – EUIN108 with the EU Commission’s department for informatics (DG DIGIT) that is responsible for digital infrastructure and services in the Commission.

DIGIT B, in partnership with Commission services and other stakeholders, provides high quality corporate Business Solutions (Information Systems), common frameworks and interoperable, reusable components enabling the successful implementation of the Commission’s Digital Transformation and EU policies.

DIGIT.B.4 defines and provides the capabilities required to deliver high quality IT solutions.B.4 creates and maintains talent pools (competence centres) from which development project teams can be composed. These resources share a common, agile development culture with high quality standards. Based on these pools and considering the requirements from project owners, B.4 executes the projects of internal customers (other DIGIT units) as well as external customers (DGs) if decided by the Priority Management Board.

The unit defines and promotes the reference architecture for European Commission applications.

The reusable components of DIGIT.B.3 play a key role in this reference architecture.

Another pillar of the reference architecture is the Product Management activity which defines and supports market products and Open-Source tools to be used in the reference architecture.

This way, the development of applications can happen according to code standards and templates allowing B.4 to act as a software factory. Such an approach leads to more consistency, higher quality and increased productivity.

Regular training, team animation and quality assurance of BA’s resources ensures the alignment of its development with the reference architecture.

The unit liaises with other units, both in DIGIT and in the rest of the Commission, contributing to the reference architecture and providing methodological support in the form of Advisory Services.

To achieve our mission, we:

• Define solid processes to recruit, train and evaluate technical specialists

• Maintain close collaboration with the customer units to ensure the alignment of the resources to the needs

• Collaborate with IT Governance to ensure alignment to the reference and solution architecture with the needs of the European Commission.

DIGIT.B.4.004 is the “Industrialization & Standards” sector that hosts all development related competency centres.

The Test Competency Centre (TSTCC) is looking for a motivated Test automation specialist (TEAS) to reinforce its pool of resources. The selected candidate will work on projects of our client DGs or on foundation services of the competency centre. The assignment may change over time depending on the portfolio/project/service needs.

Methodologies and tools:

• The methodology used for development is based on SAFe, PM2 and Agile.

• DevSecOps practices are in place.

• The tool used for data modelling and database design are Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler and Hackolade.

• The tool used for database development is Oracle SQL Developer.

• The technical environment is based on Oracle 19c, DynamoDB, Weblogic 12/14 or Springboot, Cloud (AWS, Azure).

• Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA is used as Java development environment.

• VS Code or IntelliJ IDEA is used as Angular development environment.

• Bitbucket and JIRA are used for source control and activity tracking.

• Selenium is used for functional testing.

• SonarQube is used for code quality checks.

• Fortify and Tenable.IO are used for continuous security assurance.

• Edge and Firefox are the web browsers.

• All documents are written in Word for Microsoft 365.

• Confluence is used as collaborative wiki environment.

Interviews:

• The proposed candidate should be ready to travel to the premises of the Commission in Brussels for a physical interview upon request.

Service delivery:

• The services shall be performed remotely in Near-site location allowing to reach the Commission premises in Brussels within 2 hours. The external service provider may be requested to participate in the meetings with the Commission’s services in Brussels (and exceptionally in other locations).

• Laptop will be provided by the Commission.

Requirements

  • 3 + Years experience designing, developing and implementing Test Plans, Cases & Processes
  • 3 + Years experience in scripting and programming
  • 2 + Years experience with SQL
  • Ability to understand, speak and write English at level B1
  • Ability to understand, speak and write French at level B1 is an advantage
  • ISTQB Advanced Level Test Automation Engineer or equivalent certification would be an advantage.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree of 3 years – All degrees must be IT related.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of test automation technologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in the creation of test automation solutions.
  • Knowledge of Test Management and Defect Tracking tools.
  • Experience in the test data management.
  • Experience in manual testing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good redaction skills, experience in preparation of written reports.
  • Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in team

Tasks:

  • Design, prepare and monitor automated tests.
  • Contribute to the development of a plan to integrate automated testing within the testing process.
  • Evaluate tools and technology for automation best fit to the project within the DevSecOps approach.
  • Create an approach and methodology for building a test automation architecture.
  • Design and develop (new or modified) test automation solutions that meet the business needs.
  • Enable the transition of testing from a manual to an automated approach.
  • Create automated test reporting and metrics collection.
  • Manual tests execution
